StepMoms need love too

February 6, 2017

We, at Positive Steps10, are well aware that the struggle of being a Stepmom is real. The joy of finding someone to love you and commit to a relationship with you can be overshadowed by the struggles of feeling left out, ridiculed, overruled and other dynamics shone in a blended family situation.

You might have a great relationship with your step children but may be at odds with their mother.

You may be crawling in your skin because every time you try to talk to your spouse about their kids  you are at odds. The two of you are on two separate pages when it comes to discipline and how to raise the children

You may be challenged on a regular basis by your stepchildren to prove your worth to be in their dad's life.

Or it could be none of the above and  you are enjoying being a Stepmom because the situation is going smoothly for you.

No matter what stage you are at, you deserve to be respected, be informed, and be loved. While you can't control what happens around you, you can make sure that you are digging deep so that you can control yourself. As tempting as it may be to lash out, act on your resentment, cuss out your offenders, and banish yourself from being actively involved in your family, don't- just don't!

As a believer, remember that God is with you and He can work through you. Pray about your next steps.

*Love yourself by taking care of yourself.

*Be kind and careful of what you say and how you say it.

*Reflect the self-love you have unto your love for your family. *Try to respond to those who seem to be "against" you with love... Your personal world as a woman, wife, and stepmom will change and improve if you keep Love at the forefront.

*Use the following verses to remind yourself of this:

  • "Love others as much as you love yourself" -Matthew 22:39

  • "Always be humble and gentle. Patiently put up with each other and love each other." -Ephesians 4:2

  • "The Spirit gives us power, love, and self-control"- 2Timothy 1:7

After all, Stepmom's need love too.
