4 Amazing Apps for Self-Care

May 29, 2017

When you think of self-care you tend to think of setting aside more time to engage in and plan for such activities as getting an hour long massage, taking a few days vacation, or joining a health inspired "no nonsense" challenge for lifestyle change. But actually, taking care of YOU does not have to be a cumbersome chore or time consuming activity. It could simply be a matter of downloading an app to your phone and "checking in" on it when you need to. So instead of promoting for you to "unplug" we say, "plug in"! Think of it as preparing for a tough road ahead of you, as many times our days can be stressful with work and family obligations. Take time now to read through the following app suggestions that you can enjoy- anytime, anywhere.

These  4 Apps provide a quick "plug in" to your own well-being and soul:

1. Bible App. This app works on and offline. As soon as you open your eyes in the morning, check out the "Verse of the Day". Its quick, easy and sometimes it feels as though God selected that verse just for you. The other cool feature is that you can search for a particular subject and it will bring up related verses. Perfect for moments when your seeking peace or want answers to your actual purpose in life.

2. Moodica App. I love this app. It consists of several moving images with sound effects. Sometimes its the chirping of birds or the peaceful sounds of waves hitting the sandy shore. If you can just carve out 5-10 minutes to enjoy the scene and use your imagination, you can briefly escape the stress around you. Find a quiet place, turn down your ringer, and indulge.

3. Calm App. The Calm app teaches you how to be in the moment and breathe. We enjoy practicing mindfulness through the breathing meditation- take in deep breaths, hold, and release. It also has guided meditation and comes with a variety of different moving images. More features are available for a fee. But the best part is, you can achieve an effective meditation session simply by using the free version.

4. IHeart Radio. Yes, this is a basic necessity (atleast for me) because music can affect our mood. But outside of that fact, if you pair this app's Spa Radio station with any of the above apps- you have created the perfect ambience for self-care. Carve out a reasonable time frame for yourself to achieve this. Putting YOU at the top of the priority list. Whether you're sitting in your favorite chair, lying on your bed, or on the couch, whenever you hear spa music, it makes you want to just be still and relax.

We hope you can enjoy a moment of self-care on a daily basis by using these apps. If not daily, at least weekly. Remember, YOU are important and your well-being is even more detrimental to your family, friends, loved ones, and other people you serve. You cannot pour from an empty cup, so fill it up with some self-love!

Download these apps and more at your own will from your favorite app store.
